Steven Shelton
Steven Shelton (né Simmons) is originally from Greenwood, AR. He received a BA from Augustana College (Sioux Falls, SD) and an MA from Wayne State University (Detroit).
After working as a health care PR executive, he attended Wayne State University Law School where he graduated 1st in his class and voted summa cum laude by the faculty. He practiced law at Jenner & Block (Chicago), Miro Weiner & Kramer (Bloomfield Hills, MI), and his own firm (Royal Oak, MI).
Steve developed dissociative identity disorder (DID) as a child when he was sexually assaulted for years. For more than twenty years, he kept his illness a secret—even from his psychotherapists. Two of his alters—Mark and Wayne—wreaked havoc on his personal, educational, and professional lives. In 1998, Mark robbed two Michigan banks. Steve accepted responsibility and served nine years behind bars.
He and his husband live in Florida with their clowder of cats.
